Our Story
Founded in 1986, by Al Sutherland and David Gillmor, Liberty Doorworks, Inc. is deeply rooted in New York’s history. Our name honors the Statue of Liberty’s centennial celebration—a symbol of strength, craftsmanship, and endurance that reflects the values we uphold. Those values—trust, leadership, and integrity—trace back generations to the owner’s great-great-grandfather, a painting contractor on the Brooklyn Bridge. His legacy of craftsmanship and character continues to guide how we serve our clients and shape every project we take on today.
Our Mission
At Liberty Doorworks, we combine big-project capabilities with the personal attention of a family-owned business. Our team is dedicated to building lasting client relationships, providing tailored solutions, and delivering a level of customization and care that larger companies simply can’t match.

Certified Women-Owned Business
As a NYS W.B.E. certified company, Liberty Doorworks has built its reputation on more than just doors and hardware—we’ve built it on trust. For decades, our team has combined technical expertise, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to quality, ensuring every project is handled with precision and care. This certification is not only a mark of distinction, but also a reflection of our dedication to fostering inclusivity, accountability, and long-term client partnerships.
Certified. Trusted. Committed to Quality.
Honoring Our Heritage
Before Liberty Doorworks became the trusted name it is today, our journey began with a simple mark—a logo that represented craftsmanship, integrity, and a commitment to quality. This original emblem reflects our roots and the decades of dedication that shaped our brand. While our look has evolved, the values behind our work remain the same: precision, reliability, and a passion for creating doors that stand the test of time.
